Gorgeous, spacious, historic, set in the heart of George Town – Ren I Tang Heritage Inn is a perfect place if you want to stay in a pleasant and friendly environment and walking distance to all major attractions of George Town.
The charming Ren I Tang Heritage Inn hotel is an impressive result of a sensitive restoration of a 124 years old former Chinese medical hall, the oldest medical hall in South East Asia. The character of the building and rooms stayed almost untouched by the restoration so visitors can enjoy modern amenities in an interesting historic hotel.
Ren I Tang Heritage Inn is located in vibrant Little India, in the heart of UNESCO Heritage Zone of George Town. It’s situated conveniently close to the bus station, the ports (for ferries going to Butterworth and Langkawi) and close to beautiful Chinese temples, mosques, China Town and the famous street art of George Town, as well as Indian, Malay and Chinese restaurants.
Ren I Tang Heritage Inn consists of seventeen stylish hotel rooms, a spacious restaurant/cafe, a small shop called Macam Macam and Yin Oi Tong museum.
The restaurant called Bistro Tang serves variety of lovely meals, both local and western, coffee, soft drinks, beer and wine.

Macam Macam (All sorts in Malay) offers cute handcrafts, and Yin Oi Tong Chinese Medical Hall Museum keeps interesting artefacts from the former medical hall.
Each of seventeen rooms in Ren I Tang Heritage Inn is unique. We were staying in an atypical air well room. The mattress was very comfortable as well as pillows and we really had a good rest there. The attached bathroom was smaller but pleasant, with natural toiletries available. Wifi in the room was fast.
As every room is really special, you have a wide choice – you can stay in a spacious studio flat with a kitchenette, in a family room that joins two beautiful rooms together, or in two cosy room with a wooden bath in a roomy bathroom.
Two charming rooms are facing the small courtyard with flowers and herbs, one is accessible by a wheelchair. A big room with a balcony into the green courtyard is irresistible. A loft room reminds of a small studio and has a nice view of a courtyard and George Town itself. There are two authentic air well rooms; air wells are an interesting part of the living space.
Every room with its own charm is delightful and a joy to stay in.
The wooden design is very pleasant and different woollen carpets add charm to the spacious interior.
In the mornings, we enjoyed the buffet style breakfast with eggs, toasted bread, butter, jam, muesli, cornflakes with milk, coffee, tea, juice and bananas.
The service of the hotel staff is excellent. They are very attentive, informal, and help with every problem that might arise. They are always happy to give you advice on the attractions of the town and tips for the best restaurants and meals.
This authentic hotel with lively atmosphere attracts mainly solo female travellers, families and couples because of its friendly and safe environment in and around the hotel.
We enjoyed staying in Ren I Tang Heritage Inn very much.
