A Lovely Stay at the East Indies Mansion, George Town Penang Malaysia
Situated in the vivid Little India, in the heart of UNESCO Heritage Zone of George Town, the charming East Indies Mansion is a delightful place to stay that you will love.
Spacious, quiet, with a long history that breathes trough the walls, close to all stunning Chinese temples, amazing restaurants and other attractions of George Town – what else could you wish for?
The 240 years old gorgeous historic mansion is a result of a perfect restauration of three original Chinese houses.
By looking at the East Indies Mansion from the street, we never imagined how immense the interior could be.
A spacious entrance hall with a reception opens into quiet courtyards decorated with a lot of lovely flowers and a lounge area furnished with comfortable couches and chairs where we could read a book or just relax and fully enjoy the silence.
East Indies Mansion features three spacious rooms (Standard Suites), two large apartments (Deluxe Suite and Duplex Quadruple Room) and two family apartments on first floor (Family Suite and King Suite).

All rooms are very spacious, furnished with antique furniture and decorated with gorgeous period pictures, wood carvings and stylish lights. In some rooms, the original walls have been preserved and this element is a part of the design of the mansion.
We loved staying in both the Deluxe Suite and the Family Suite.
The beds and pillows were exceptionally comfortable. The bathrooms with original tiles on the walls and on the floor were very roomy and pleasant.
The Deluxe Suite consists of a large living room located on the ground floor which is joined by a spiral staircase with a fairytale bedroom and a stylish bathroom on the first floor.

What’s more, we could make a use of another large living room, a common room for Deluxe Suite, Duplex Quadruple Room and Family Suite. There is a big sofa, a table, cushions for sitting and cabinets displaying historical artefacts in the common room. It was a nice place to have a rest too.
The Family Suite comprises of a large living room facing the lush green courtyard, two adorable bedrooms and a beautiful bathroom. We loved the combination of antique furniture and modern paintings.
The breakfast is served in a dining room by the green courtyard. Guests can enjoy fresh juice, coffee, tea, fresh fruits and other meals a la carte, such as East Indies eggs with red beans and grilled tomatoes with toast, butter and jam, and other tasty meals.
You don’t have to worry if you like to prepare your own food when you are travelling; there is a large and well equipped kitchen waiting for you. It was a nice surprise for us to see that East Indies Mansion provides guests with the access and full use of the common kitchen.
The staff is professional, very friendly, attentive and made us feel very welcome.
We have always wondered what the saying ‘Home away from home’ means and whether we will experience such a feeling while staying in a hotel. Finally we have found our ‘Home away from home’ in the East Indies Mansion and are looking forward to staying there again on our next visit of George Town.
We highly recommend you staying in the East Indies Mansion
to have a unique experience.
